Studying in Leipzig Leipzig - city with distinctive flair

Leipzig is one of the most vibrant and dynamic cities. No matter, whether city of music, of trade fair or of books - for centuries, Leipzig has been an important center of Europe.

Famous writers such as Lessing, Klopstock, Gottsched or Goethe moved here. Philosophers such as Leibniz, Nietzsche or Bloch have influenced the thinking of the city until today. And especially for its musicality Leipzig is famous all over the world. The city has a long tradition dating back mainly to the work of Bach and Mendelssohn.
Art, science and culture define the city, founded in 1165 up to today: At almost 20 non-university research institutions, the University and six more universities  several thousand research scientists are conducting research projects. The "Leipzig School" and the „Baumwollspinnerei“ are leaders in the world of art. The St. Thomas Boys Choir, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the many museums and a lively theater scene shape the cultural life of the city.

After the peaceful revolution Leipzig could develop into one of the booming areas in Eastern Germany and is now experiencing a renaissance as a logistics and high-tech center in the heart of Europe. Today, Leipzig is characterized by economic growth, a high level of culture, lots of green oases, and not least by an excellent quality of life for families, for children and also for the growing number of older people in our society. A walk through the city is really worthwhile.
