The student registration procedure (SMV) of the statutory health insurance companies requires electronic transmission of the relevant data between universities and health insurance companies. Since 1 January 2022, data transfer in both directions has been exclusively electronic.
Please contact your health insurance company and request proof of your insurance (M10). With many health insurance companies, you can request this via your app. As a rule, the notification should be sent the next working day.
Please quote our sender number H0001141.
Please contact a German statutory health insurance company of your choice, present proof of private health insurance and apply for a digital M10 certificate for enrolment at HMT Leipzig.

Students from countries of the European Union, an EEA state, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey or Tunisia provide proof of health insurance with their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card or an entitlement:
- You must contact a German statutory health insurance fund so that they can confirm your EU health insurance and send us the electronic notification.
- Provide the following data of HMT Leipzig to the German statutory health insurance company:
Sender number H0001141.
You can view the list of German health insurance companies here. This service is free of charge.
Students from non-EU and non-EEA countries must take out statutory health insurance until they reach the age of 30 and can be exempted from this compulsory insurance with a statutory health insurance fund if they wish. This must also be reported as part of the automatic registration procedure between health insurance funds and universities. If you decide in favour of German health insurance including long-term care insurance, please note the following:
- Provide the following HMT Leipzig data to the insuring health insurance company:
- Sender number H0001141.
- The monthly costs for all insurances for students are approximately 130 euros (as of January 2025).
- Your enrolment is not complete until you provide proof of valid health insurance. In order to take out statutory health insurance, you must present your letter of admission.
