  • for lectures

If you would like to attend lectures or group lessons in large groups (number of participants: 15 or more!) at our university, please submit an application for guest auditor status to the Student Secretariat, Grassistraße 8, Room 113, by 28th February for the summer semester and by 31st August for the winter semester.

Please use the registration form for guest students. You can choose a maximum of 5 lectures from the current course catalogue. Please contact the lecturers of your chosen lectures to obtain their consent. A fee of €50.00 is charged for guest lectures. Students of Leipzig University are exempt from this fee if they present a current certificate of enrolment. Guest students without individual lessons are not members of the university and are not entitled to practice in the buildings of the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre.

  • in individual lessons or small groups

Guest student status with individual lessons/small groups is possible for a maximum of 4 semesters. During this time, you are enrolled as a student at our university and are obliged to pay the semester fee to the student union. Furthermore, a tuition fee of currently € 750.00 per semester is charged. To be accepted as a guest student with individual tuition in a desired major subject, you must pass an entrance examination.
Please register for this entrance examination via the online application portal. The normal application periods apply. You are free to choose the examination programme. If you have any questions, please contact the lecturers of your chosen specialisation.

Applications for the "Mendelssohn Orchestra Academy" are made directly via the Gewandhaus Leipzig

Chamber music lessons as part of the Orchestra Academy take place at the HMT Leipzig. There are two ways for you to utilise the connections to the HMT:

  • as an enrolled student, i.e. you enjoy all the benefits to which students are entitled (Germany semester ticket, membership of the Leipzig Student Union, rehearsal authorisation at HMT, use of the library, access to all HMT IT services) or
  • as a guest student: at the HMT (use of the library, access to all HMT IT services).

You will receive more detailed information after your admission to the Orchestra Academy.

The HMT offers particularly talented children and young people the opportunity to study in the Special class for talented youngsters (NFK).

After passing the entrance examination, they are enrolled at the HMT as NFK students, receive preparatory lessons of the main subject instrument, music theory, harmony and counterpoint training and other compulsory and optional subjects and are thus supported in their artistic development. An age limit is set at the age of 20. Applicants must not yet have completed their A-levels (exception: they are currently doing voluntary service).

Further information on the HMT's young talent promotion class can be found in the regulations for Special class of talented youngsters. Applications for the NFK can be made via the online application portal during the specified application periods.
