Between Admission and The Start of Studies
You have been admitted to HMT Leipzig, congratulations!
in our To Do list you will now find all the steps you need to take to successfully enrol at HMT. If you have any questions regarding individual steps, please do not hesitate to contact the Student Support Office.
This is your first enrolment at HMT Leipzig:
- You have accepted your study place in the applicant portal.
- You can then apply for enrolment, go through the online enrolment process and complete it.
- You will now be taken to the document upload, which you must complete later.
- Go back to the overview, where you will now find the application for enrolment as a PDF, which you must download. Please read the document carefully and complete page 3 in full.
- You can now submit the documents for enrolment. Important: all mandatory documents must be uploaded the first time. You will be given the opportunity to upload all other documents again later.
- Your online enrolment application will now be processed by the Registrar's Office. This can take a few days, especially in the winter semester. After processing, you will become a provisional student and receive a welcome email with your new user ID. Please follow the instructions and only use the new account to register on the HMT Campus from now on.
- If you become a full-time student at HMT, transfer the semester fee immediately. You will find the bank details and purpose of payment on page 2 of the enrolment application.
- Contact your health insurance company to apply for the electronic insurance certificate for HMT. You can find more detailed information here.
- Once the semester contribution has been credited to your HMT Leipzig account, your status will change and you will become a full student instead of a provisional student. This will change your view on the HMT Campus.
- Book an appointment in the online calendar for personal enrolment.
- You can submit any missing documents by this date or bring them with you.

Information about visa
With your application, you first apply for a ‘student applicant visa’ at the German Embassy. If you are admitted to study after passing the entrance examination, the foreigners' authority at the university location will change the ‘student applicant visa’ to a ‘student visa’ and issue the residence permit for the purpose of studying. Please note that tourist visas cannot be changed to student visas. This can only be done by the German Embassy in your home country. When applying for a visa, you must provide proof of financial security for your studies.
Chinese applicants
Students and graduates of purely artistic degree programmes (e.g. piano, string instruments, singing) must take part in the artist procedure of the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS).
This does not apply to teacher training programmes; applicants for these programmes are examined in the normal APS procedure!
All information about the artist process can be found here:
