Applications for financial support from the German Academic Exchange Service can only be submitted in the home country to the German Embassy or the DAAD regional office.
With your application, you first apply for a ‘student applicant visa’ at the German Embassy. If you are admitted to study after passing the entrance examination, the foreigners authority at the university location will change the ‘student applicant visa’ to a ‘student visa’ and issue the residence permit for the purpose of studying. Please note that tourist visas cannot be changed to student visas. This can only be done by the German embassy in your home country. When applying for a visa, you must provide proof of financial security for your studies.
You can now apply for a residence permit for study purposes online via: www.leipzig.de/aufenthaltstitel-ausbildung. You can find out which documents you need to submit and what you need to bear in mind when applying at www.leipzig.de and in the flyer below.
