If you are writing your Bachelor's thesis in connection with a musicology seminar, please submit your application within the first 3 weeks of the seminar.
Please submit the form with the confirmations of the selected reviewers to the Examinations Office by the deadline.
All academic theses are assessed by two reviewers.
The reviewers should be chosen according to the subject field. At least one of the reviewers should represent an area of research at the Hochschule.
All teachers at the university can be chosen as reviewers; they are available for consultation during the thesis processing period.
External supervisors are also permitted under certain conditions.
Consult both reviewers on the topic.
The formulated topic should contain a specific research question.
The writing period starts at the beginning of the respective semester and is specified in the examination regulations of your degree program.
⇒ 3 months for Bachelor's thesis
⇒ 4 months for Master's thesis (except drama degree)
You will receive a confirmation by email when the processing time starts. The submission deadline specified in this email is binding and must be respected.
3 printed and bound copies must be submitted to Katharina Ruhe at the Examination Office by the specified deadline.

- by post to HMT Leipzig (attn. K. Ruhe) - the deadline is met with the postmark.
We recommend taking the course “Kolloquium für Abschlussarbeiten” in the elective courses offered by the university.

Please include the declaration of independence at the end of the paper:
„Ich erkläre an Eides statt, dass ich die vorliegende Arbeit selbstständig und nur unter Verwendung der angegebenen Quellen und Hilfsmittel angefertigt habe.“ (Datum, Unterschrift)
Modifications are possible upon request.
For an extension of the deadline, please send an e-mail to Katharina Ruhe with the following information:
- detailed justification of an important reason
- Proof of the reason (e.g. sick-note)
- Desired additional time
The dean of the faculty decides on the extension as chair of the examination board.
The change/adjustment of the topic can be requested within the first 2 months of the thesis period. Please send the new topic proposal by e-mail to Katharina Ruhe.
