The Department of Music Pedagogy at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig combines the disciplines:
The city of music Leipzig is home to a vibrant free culture and music scene as well as many traditional institutions such as the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchestra, the St. Thomas Boys Choir and University Choir. The Institute for Music pedagogy is closely linked to many of these institutions and ensembles, the University of Leipzig and Leipzig schools and music teachers. Student teachers are actively involved in the university and the city projects, conduct ensembles and offer additional musical activities at schools.
Music educational research has a great wealth of objects and methods and increasingly presents as an interdisciplinary and cultural studies-oriented area.
Theory and practice of music education in public schools is just in the center of scientific interest such as music lessons, concert education and extra-curricular music education. Theoretical studies of historical and systematic perspective have been expanded by more empirical methods, e.g. quantitative and qualitative research methods.
